Brian R. Gates
Arriving in Indiana in 1990 as an undergraduate at the University of Notre Dame, Brian has since found his permanent home in South Bend, where he raises his two remarkable children. Before joining Jones Obenchain, Brian honed his skills as an advocate working on behalf of children in a variety of contexts, including being a teacher, a stay-at-home father, and a case manager for children and families in crisis. Brian continues to represent the most vulnerable members of our community by volunteering as a court appointed special advocate in the St. Joseph County CASA program. "The first lesson you learn when working with children," Brian says, "is that you can't truly be effective unless you earn your clients' trust. And that trust is earned by being reliable, by keeping the lines of communication open, and by consistently following through on what you say you're going to do."
Brian has carried his commitment to reliability, open communication and consistent follow through into his general litigation practice, assisting both individuals and businesses in resolving their disputes in and out of court.
An accomplished martial artist, Brian has recently traded the dojo for the ballroom dance floor, where the only thing he worries about bruising are his partner's toes.
