Scott A. Loitz
Scott was born in Chicago Heights, Illinois and grew up in Thornton, a south suburb of Chicago. He graduated from Thornwood High School in 1987 and attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, graduating cum laude with a double major in history and political science. While at Drake, Scott served in various leadership positions at his fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon. He also was a member of the Drake Army R.O.T.C. program. After graduation in 1991, Scott took a year off to attend a five month transportation officer course at Ft. Eustis, Virginia. He served in the United States Army Reserve for seven years both during and after attending Valparaiso University School of Law.
While attending law school, Scott participated in the school’s criminal clinic appearing in court and participating on the mock trial team. This training prepared him well for trial work which he has been doing since graduating in 1995. Scott has tried over thirty bench and jury trials in Lake, Porter, LaPorte, St. Joseph, Elkhart, Marshall and Noble counties. In addition, Scott is a registered mediator and conducts mediations in both Lake and St. Joseph counties. He also regularly serves on arbitration panels.
The first seven years of Scott’s practice were in Lake County and he remains active in the Lake County Bar Association, serving as the Associate Member Representative to the Board of Managers. He also is a past member of the Calumet American Inns of Court in Lake County. Scott joined Jones Obenchain in 2002 and became a partner in 2005.
Scott's areas of practice include all varieties of general litigation, business litigation and insurance defense litigation, representing both individuals and businesses. He is a registered civil mediator and has served as a court appointed mediator since 2005. Scott has also served as a volunteer guardian through REAL Services in South Bend.
Scott also serves as a member of the Parish Council at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Granger where he and his family are parishioners.
When he is not trying cases, Scott enjoys playing sports with his kids and spending time with his family.
Scott was selected to be a member of the Michiana Region Forty Under 40 Class of 2008. Forty Under 40 is a collaborative project involving the regional Chambers of Commerce, Elkhart Truth, South Bend Tribune, Bethel College, and a number of major employers intended to recognize and honor forty young professionals in the area for their contribution and accomplishments in both their workplace and community.
